📜 Livingstone, Ian and James Wallis. 2019. Board Games in 100 Moves, London: Dorling Kindersley Limited
Both authors of this book have been working in the tabletop games industry, and the text, despite starting in Ancient Egipt, and moving through the likes of chess or playing cards, has a somewhat market-oriented perspective visible throughout.
The book proudly mentions 100 games, not only board games, but also RPGs, and others. Puns, trivia, anecdotes, this book has everything — it aims to be clever, and achieves that.
Musically there's not much, but there are some remarks with a connection to our wiki's topics:
- John Cage's and Marcel Duchamp's Reunion, the "musical chess" piece (p. 46),
- musical background of the author of Cluedo, Anthony E. Pratt (p. 99),
- Bez Shahriari, mentioned as the designer of Yogi (p. 111),
- Huizinga's Homo Ludens (p. 117).
All in all, a colorful, attractive book, good for introducing members of the general public to a more hobbyist approach to tabletop games.
