Terry Riley's In C (1964). Known as the most famous "Minimalist" piece that mixes both composition and improvisation. Players are given a set of 53 short motifs to play as an ensemble. But, there is freedom in how to play them.

The combination of composition and improvisation that sparked a new movement and changed people’s perception of music. But, it might be debatable if this truly is a music game. I believe it is. Performing and analyzing the mechanics of IN C is essential study for anyone interested in creating music games.
